If you've been following J. Cole you'd have been anticipating his 3rd edition of Any Given Sundaybefore the album Cole World: The Sideline Storydrops on Sept 27th.Pshhhh! This guy's even got pizzazz. Instead of re-releasing some old stuff on a short tape, my guy has gone on the radio and freestyled on 2 of the biggest beats in the rap game. This is the best freestyle I've heard on either beats, I dare you to disagree.
As it plays in the background as I write this post. I've just got my left hand on my head tryna stop my head boppin' into my laptop screen.
Aint nuttin better than some fresh killlller lyrics.
If only I was one of the listeners to the station.
My favourite dynamic duo from Chicago - The Cool Kids (comprised of Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks) have just dropped another video to probably my favourite track from their debut album When Fish Ride Bicylcles, entitled Summer Jam. This track is just the coolest, chillout vibe track I've heard in a while, since the re-ups from the DJ Jazzy Jeff & Mick Boogie: Summertime mixes. But to be honest, everything Pharrell Williams sticks a foot in, goes swell, especially on the production. Enough chit chat. Come to my pool party a vibe with me.
Ghostpoet's debut album released early in February of this year (2011), is nothing short of greatness. It's impossible to put this album into a genre. This guy is so creatively crafty with the way he's ventured through the different avenues of music. Dubbing himself "a lad with a lisp and some stories to tell", being born and bred on the gritty streets of Coventry, he paints a picture of how life is/was like over underwater, free-slowing, repetitive boom claps. This is the ISH to be listening to, when you knockin' back that ISH... ya feel me.
In this album of only 10 tracks he's spanned the worlds of hip-hop, trip-hop, dubstep, indie and all sorts. I've gotta admit... It's frikkkin GENIUS! Especially on his debut. He's even got Kano on the wave. The best track for me on here is Finished I Ain't. The production on this has sealed it for me, the sluggish simple beat, that creates visuals in your head of you getting a tour of his hometown around him. This is a big one for me.
This album is composed of 9 eye-warming tracks. Psychedelic sounds wrapped around an electronica beat, which is the kinda stuff I like listening to when I want to just close my eyes and zone out to some noises lol. If you've heard of Toro y moi... They sound sorta similar. Listening to it again now, (as I write this review) I see these being used as soundtrack for something like a rave on the moon - all slow mo'. You know them videos where there's people partying and there's just strobe lights attacking your iris... Them kind.
The track on the album for me is "Odessa". I'm sure if you enjoy your football and have played FIFA 11, you'd recognise this track.
I'm not gonna blab much on these, but heres a quick blurb for you.

I was surfing around as I usually do, and I came across Bon Iver's video to their Calgary track (I've been tryna stay up with them, especially since Kanye sampled them =P) , I was like:
"*gets weirdfeeling* =] Hmmm, this sounds beautiful *looks at video*What? Huh? =S"
The video is directed by Dan Huiting and Andre Durand
Watch and feel for yourself.
I'm just about to get their first album: Bon Iver - "Bon Iver" that just came out today.

Something WEIRDLY strange.

I don't understand what this is all about and I think imma just stay in the blue on this
Abel Tesfaye, otherwise known as The Weeknd is a new 20 year old artist from Toronto. This guy is sorta unknown to everybody but Drake. Being that they're from the same town and everything, it could just be one of those ones where Drake is just giving his fellow Toronto-ian a push in the mega-money-making direction. He's been mentioned on his October's Very Own blog and his Twitter.
It doesn't really matter how much Drake has been promoting him, If people like his sound... they like his sound. I most certainly do.
He produces his own, and its something new, I don't know what kind of genre to class him, some kind of supersonic, thematic, lo-fi, special, black and red box at the top of your wardrobe kinda music...
I hear the Kanye and Drake influence in his music though... He's on more of a mood-setting tip with such production on each track got you feeling a certain way about that scrrrrrrrrrrrumptious person of the opposite sex in front of you. =]
The album HOUSE OF BALLOONSwas released near the end of March '11. I must say its got a considerable number of plays on the iTunes already.
The thing thats got everyone peering at this guy's twitter and youtube is that this album is the first of a trilogy, the next two don't have any release dates but they're bound to sound abit like: someday of somemonth 2011.
The guy is planning on letting loose THURSDAY and ECHOES OF SILENCE all before the year 2011 is over.
3 albums in one year!?
LEGGO!
=]
A few leaks...
2009 reference track that was meant for Drake, made when Weeknd was part of The Noise
Four unreleased tracks, backtracking to when he was part of production crew - The Noise
"Rolling Stone" - should be for the Thursday tape.
